• Clinical Nurse Coordinator
Department of Medicine, Hematology, WashU Medicine

As a clinical nurse coordinator in the Department of Medicine at WashU Medicine, Evan Garber specializes in caring for patients with sickle cell anemia. His role encompasses various responsibilities, including providing telephone triage, responding to patient inquiries through the online portal, MyChart, assisting with care coordination, and offering in-clinic support during outpatient visits.

Each day, I am inspired by the kindness of my patients and their families.”

Garber explains that, despite the debilitating and frequent pain his patients experience, they consistently show kindness to him and his care team. This sense of compassion extends beyond his patients. He is also grateful for the warm and supportive environment fostered by his colleagues, who welcomed him in and are a substantial reason he stays at at WashU Medicine.

“I genuinely feel supported by my leadership team, and I feel greatly appreciated by my colleagues and patients, which is incredibly rewarding,” Garber shared.

Outside of work, Garber has begun a new hobby, woodworking. He finds joy in crafting pieces of art from start to finish and welcomes the challenges that come with the creative process. When he is not perfecting his woodworking skills, he enjoys spending time with his partner, whether reading together or cheering on the St. Louis Blues.

Garber received WashU Medicine’s Kelley Mullen award in 2024, a distinguished staff award that annually recognizes clinical support staff who consistently demonstrates ongoing acts of caring that go beyond the normally expected levels of courtesy, responsiveness, and customer service and creates a positive work environment.
