Lana Hilliard, assistant dean of advising in Arts & Sciences, has been with WashU since 2022. In her role, she coordinates the Progress Counseling Program (formerly academic probation) that pairs students with faculty or staff members for weekly meetings to re-engage and align students so they can accomplish their academic goals at WashU. Through this process, Hilliard can help those students see their potential and leverage their strengths for success.

“I am motivated when a student I know who had a brief misstep (as we all have) returns to good academic standing and graduates,” said Hilliard. “Graduation is my favorite day here at WashU – I share many happy tears with students.”

Hilliard attributes her continued commitment to WashU to the students. Helping them finish their education at WashU on a positive note and learning more about their interests keeps her work fun.

I am always so inspired by all the things our students accomplish. They are also so civically engaged, which really gives me hope for our future,”

When Hilliard isn’t on campus, she finds joy in spending time with her husband and son, and reading. She is also the owner of The Trivia Girl, LLC, where she creates and hosts themed trivia nights.
