When asked about his “WashU Why”, the answer for Amjad Musleh, MD, associate professor of Anesthesiology & Emergency Medicine, is two words: The people.

“It’s as simple as that,” Musleh said. “You will not find a group of faculty and staff as compassionate and dedicated as those here. Everyone genuinely goes out of their way to support each other.”

Musleh, who joined WashU Medicine faculty in 2019, also serves as the Director of WashU Medicine’s Gateway Coaching Program, where faculty help mentor, advise and support current medical students.

“This part of my work brings me the most satisfaction,” Musleh said. “It allows me to guide and support students in ways that shape their professional growth and contribute to WashU’s mission of developing exceptional physicians.”

Based on both his personal and professional experiences, Musleh understands that aligning his work with WashU’s larger mission of providing exceptional patient care engages and motivates others.

“I’ve found that giving my team a clear understanding of our goals and why they matter makes a big difference,” Dr. Musleh said. “I focus on listening, providing guidance, and showing how each person’s work contributes to the bigger picture, which keeps everyone engaged and motivated.”

When he isn’t providing clinical care or supporting medical students, Musleh spends his time with his wife and three children. Time with them brings him the most joy.
