Physicians Billing Service – WashU Medicine

Teamwork, having a mental and physical support system and a culture that is both encouraging and supportive is what keeps Floyd Boykin Jr., a patient financial specialist in the Physicians Billing Service (PBS) for WashU Medicine, motivated in his role at WashU. Boykin, who started with WashU in 2006, manages correspondence and financial applications that support services within PBS. He also serves as the Equity Champion for PBS, where he co-facilitates bimonthly community building sessions designed to foster connection, understanding and inclusion among staff. In addition, Boykin leads a team for the WashU Wellness challengesThe Jazzy Poetic Walkers, that promotes mental and physical health while strengthening a sense of support within all of PBS.

“Every two months, Floyd organizes a community building class that encourages people to explore diversity,” Brittany Bolte, supervisor in PBS, said. “He serves as a wonderful inspiration to all at PBS.”

Fostering a sense of community and purpose is at the core of what Boykin does. He credits the encouragement and support of his leadership and colleagues for helping him thrive in his role. Feeling fulfilled and confident that his work makes a difference, Boykin encourages others to seek careers that align with those values.

Being an advocate for all of us learning and appreciating our differences and our similarities is extremely important to me.

Outside of work, Boykin wears many hats. He is a father, spoken-word artist and poet, published author of nine books, a visual artist, multi-instrumentalist that includes playing the Native American Flute and a Lupus ambassador. He is passionate about raising funds and awareness for lupus and enjoys cooking cultural cuisine.
