Michael Vacca has been with WashU’s Emergency Management team since 2022. His role focuses on supporting and enhancing the safety and emergency preparedness of the university. On any given day, you can find Vacca delivering engaging emergency preparedness presentations, coordinating and conducting fire drills, providing hands-on fire extinguisher training or creating detailed building emergency maps.
“What motivates me most about my role is the opportunity to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to respond confidently in emergencies,” Vacca said. “Knowing that my work not only safeguards lives but also strengthens the community’s overall resilience is deeply fulfilling and inspires me to continue improving emergency preparedness initiatives at WashU.”
