• Grants Manager
    Office of Sponsored Research Services

An integral part of WashU’s mission, Tanya Sawyer, a grants manager in the Office of Sponsored Research Services, started her career with WashU in 2005. As part of the central fiscal unit (CFU), she and her team work to support schools, departments, and other units across the university by assisting faculty and administrative staff in preparing and submitting research funding proposals to various agencies, including federal, non-federal and industry organizations.

“There is a sense of pride when you hear the amount of funding that our university receives for research administration and I know that my office has contributed to the bigger picture,” Sawyer said.

In addition to supporting the proposal preparation and submission process, Sawyer and her team are also responsible for monitoring the progress, communicating with university and agency stakeholders, and providing support to employees involved with each grant. Sawyer enjoys that each day is different, never boring and appreciates she learns something new most days.

“The support I receive from management, my team and all of the others in research administration along with the people I have met over the years at conferences and events is what keeps me here, “ Sawyer said. “My role has given me many opportunities that I may not have had if I moved on years ago.”

She spends her time away from work with her children, camping and traveling.
